Catskiing in Niseko Japan

Maybe they want to do a foreign exchange...

I know this site is called Catskiing Canada and that this video is from Japan, but you have to check out this video. If for nothing else that riding around in that sweet vintage cat and shredding deep dry powder.

Canada is the epicentre for all things catskiing. Heck, it was the birthplace of the sport. But I love seeing how the awareness of Japan's ski culture is exploding and now we are seeing growth in the Japanese Cat Skiing industry.

I think it is time for an exchange program :)

First Snow Fall of the Season!

Revelstoke Mountain Resort gets it's first dusting of the white gold.

Winter is Coming...

This pic was captured at the top of Revelstoke Mountain Resort on August 22nd. Is is a harbinger of the season to come? A canary in the coal mine of seasons? With all the talk of an epic winter storm cycle brewing for this upcoming season, images like this are exciting to see but painful when the skier in me realizes that Winter is still far on the horizon. But we take solace in the truth that it is always snowing somewhere and...Winter is coming.

2016-17 Farmers Almanac predicts a colder and snowier BC!

Was this year's Almanac authored by skiers?

Farmers across North America are toiling over the latest edition of the much revered and hottly contested Farmer's Almanac. They debate it's accuracy, tout facts of years gone by and start planning for the harvest to come. Much of the same activity is done by skiers when this hallowed book is released.

You see, this time of year, skiers have had enough of summer. Memories of the past season are starting to go stale. We are inundated with ski movie trailer after ski movie trailer. We are ready for any news that will give us a glimpse of what the next season will bring. So naturally, we look to farmers. Seriously, who wouldn't trust the farmer pictured above?

So here it is, the publication that we will hang on to until the snow starts to fall. The 2016-17 Extened Forecast from The Farmer's Almanac:

Get your stoke stoked with MSP's new trailer for Ruin and Rose

This one looks like it is going to be nuts...

We've been watching MSP Films since they started back in the day. Every summer we sit back and think, "what are they going to do this season?". There seems to be more and more movie being produced, technology is moving at lightspeed, every kid on the hill is producing an "Edit", and yet, MSP does it again. They put out three minutes of visual opiate that gets us jonesin' for more. I guess until Fall we will just keep this trailer on repeat.

Enjoy :)

Wrap Your Brain in Carbon Fibre with Bern Unlimited's New Carbon Helmet

Light, stylish and comfortable

We have been protecting our heads with Bern helmets for a few years now. We really like the simplicity of the helmets. Not too many frills or gimicks. Just straight up head protection with a throwback to skate/bmx style lids. We dig em.

New this season we got our hands on the Bern Carbon Fibre Helmet. It is based on the Bern Watts shape except comes completely in carbon fibre making it super light and ultra durable. My first day on it felt strange because it was so light to ski with. I did a little test and went back to my old helmet and was instantly sold that carbon fibre was where its at!

My particular Bern lid is in the Red colour which is really more like a deep cherry colour. It is a striking tone especially in the sunshine. You can see the carbon fibre weave as well which is always cool. I wear the L/XL normally so that is what I ordered up in the carbon fibre. I found it a little snug at first. It took a few days to get it to feel right but once it was moulded to my head I was good to go. My head size is perhaps just slightly larger than average. If you have a big melon, I would recommend staying with the regular offerings from Bern.

To get the perfect fit dialed in, Bern included the BOA system to the Carbon Fibre helmet. It allows you to fine tune the fit to your head quite nicely. Also included is the drop in audio option so you can shred to the beats.

You'll notice in the included image that I am sporting the new Bern Eastwood Goggles. They fit perfectly into the Bern Helments but that is for another review...

All in all I love this helmet. If safety is first then cool factor is definetly a close second!
